Roller Hearth Furnace

Lindberg Roller Hearth Furnaces combine the latest technology in process controls, atmosphere systems, and material handling to give you a complete cost-efficient means of heat processing in many different applications.

Lindbeg roller hearth furnaces are available in either electric powered or gas-fired models. Electric heating offers reliable low-maintenance operation using elements tailored to your application. Start up and shut down procedures are simple and our superior element designs provide precise temperature control and long life. Gas-fired models use single-end recuperative tubes (SERTs) that provide economical rapid heating. The exhaust stream preheats air coming into each burner. This preheated combustion air greatly increases the efficiency of the combustion process thus lowering fuel consumption.

All models can be supplied with refractory brick insulation or lightweight ceramic fiber insulation lightweight ceramic fiber insulation that can significantly reduce heating costs. Its low thermal mass allows faster heating during start up and more rapid cooling upon shut down, helping you to optimize your operation.

Lindberg roller hearth furnaces accommodate a variety of atmospheres depending on your application. Common choices include endothermic, exothermic, or inert gas systems. A steam atmosphere can be furnished if your parts require an oxide finish.

An optional afterburner may be added to treat the effluents of your process. Lindberg afterburners thermally oxidize the exhaust to greatly reduce the pollutant content. The compact unit is located out of the way, on top of the furnace, and requires minimal maintenance.

Transfer chambers can be provided to include a direct flow of protective atmosphere to protect the workload. Double door designs and an independent high-speed roller system minimize transfer times and heat loss. Sight ports allow for direct viewing of the work in progress and allow for easy troubleshooting.

Cooling systems available include forced air, protective atmosphere, and an integral oil quench tank. Forced air systems incorporate ducted high flow propeller-type fans that cool workloads from intermediate process temperatures. Protective atmosphere cooling systems are tailored to your process and can include insulated cooling sections with fans (if necessary) and/or water-cooled sections. Integral tanks provide rapid uniform quenching. An optimized baffle system ensures proper oil flow. Precise temperature control contributes to accurate consistent results. The system includes the Lindberg Quenchguard® moisture detection system.

Return conveyors can be located next to the furnace, or, to conserve space, beneath the unit. In either case, the conveyor rolls are managed by the furnace control system for “smart” handling of completed loads. The lift station at the furnace entrance makes loading and unloading by a single operator easy, convenient, and automatic. At the end of a production run, all of the work exiting the furnace is staged on the return conveyor so that an attending operator is not necessary.

Lindberg specializes in comprehensive systems that use the latest computer-aided technology to monitor and control critical system functions. These systems simplify the operation of what can be complex furnaces by drastically reducing the number of devices needed, and by using clear, custom graphic screens. Process recipes are easily programmed using a plain-English, fill-in-the-blank approach. Special diagnostic utilities record your maintenance activity and simplify troubleshooting.
